Of medieval origin, Château La Salagre inherited its name from a tumultuous history between a suzerain and his vassal.
According to legend, the time of the English wars, the lord of Montcuq was betrayed by one of his vassals. In retaliation, the lands of the latter were covered with salt and his mansion shaved.
If the name of Salagre has remained, the salt has disappeared. Today, this most anecdotal history is the symbol of the strength of this terroir.
The disappearance of salt on these lands allowed the expression of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon and Semillon grape varieties and the complexity of the blending they compose.
If La Salagre was one of the forerunners of organic viticulture in Bergerac in 1999, it was especially the first of the Bordeaux Vineam properties to embark on the adventure.
Eric and Philippe chaperone La Salagre for more than a quarter of a century: they witnessed the great frosts of 1991 and 2013 and the conversion of wine estates into organic.
If they recognize that the wine world has evolved a lot around them in 26 years, Eric and Philippe are aware, the quality of the wines they produce, it remains.
